Impeccable provenance is often a more compelling argument for authenticity than any technical examination.

The authenticity of gold and silver coins is a concern for many investors, especially amidst numerous rumors online. However, it's worth noting that among standard bullion coins, counterfeits, most often of Chinese origin, are extremely rare.

Three types of counterfeit 5-ruble gold coins, made in three different workshops, are presented for analysis. Three genuine coins are also used for comparison. One of the counterfeits is of very high quality, making it difficult to identify, yet it cannot be called perfect.
